About Dr. Lexie Li

Hi, I'm Dr. Lexie Li (resume), an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist (CCC-SLP) and Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS) based in San Jose, CA.

I earned my Ph.D. in Linguistics from UW-Madison, focusing on Phonology and Syntax, with Minors in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Second Language Acquisition. I then pursued my Master's in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) at San José State University (SJSU). After graduating from SJSU, I worked 4 years at Bright Stars, before I started my own clinic - Learn & Inspire Speech Therapy.

This combination of advanced academic training and clinical expertise allows me to approach speech therapy with a thorough understanding of both the science and practice of language development.

In my career, I've worked with children facing a wide range of communication challenges, including autism spectrum disorder, language delays, articulation challenges, and childhood apraxia of speech. My expertise extends to both receptive and expressive language difficulties and social communication skills. In addition to my CCC-SLP and ASDCS credentials, I hold specialized certifications in Hanen More Than Words, Natural Language Acquisition for gestalt language processors, and PROMPT, a tactile-kinesthetic technique for motor speech disorders.

As a native Mandarin speaker, I am passionate about supporting bilingual families and fostering bilingualism. I offer specialized screenings and assessments tailored to the unique needs of bilingual children, making me one of the very few in the Bay Area equipped to handle these specific challenges.

In addition to my clinical work, I joined the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences at SJSU in Fall 2024, where I teach Child Language Disorders, and School Age Language, Literacy, and Social Communication in the SLP Master’s program. This role allows me to stay engaged with the latest research and continue learning, which I bring back into my clinical practice to benefit the families I work with.

My goal is to create a welcoming, fun, and supportive environment where children feel encouraged to explore and grow their communication skills. I look forward to being part of your child's journey to greater confidence and success!

My Home Page on 小红书

Since early 2024, I have been writing Posts on 小红书 (web link), where I have amassed over 2,000 followers with about 50 posts.

Unlike most English-speaking countries, where speech-language pathology (SLP) is well-established, it is a relatively new profession in mainland China. My goal in writing these posts is to share my knowledge with a broad audience and connect those in need with professional treatment.

Bilingualism: Consequences for Language, Cognition, Development, and the Brain

This is a research article (web link) about bilingualism and its consequences. It shows that the bilingual children show advantages in cognitive tasks and develop a deeper understanding of language structure.
